Rootstock x Avalon: Unlocking Bitcoin-Backed Lending for Institutions & Users

New lending markets on Rootstock give Bitcoin holders more ways to put BTC to work, without leaving the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Why this matters

Bitcoin holders want safe, onchain ways to access credit, manage treasury, and earn yield. With Avalon Labs now live on Rootstock, you can borrow against BTC-aligned collateral while staying anchored to the Bitcoin security. That means BTC exposure stays intact and users gain access to lending, leverage, and cash-flow strategies across a growing set of BTCFi apps.

Check out what you can do on Avalon with Rootstock

What’s new

Avalon’s lending platform is now integrated with Rootstock, enabling Bitcoin-collateralized lending and a broader menu of markets for BTC-native users:

  • Borrow against rBTC and other BTC-aligned assets
  • Access fixed-rate options through USDa, Avalon’s BTC-backed stablecoin
  • Use stablecoins like USDT0 and USDC.e for liquidity needs
  • Tap into Solv Protocol assets (SolvBTC, XSolvBTC) and other listed tokens (WETH, BPRO, UniBTC)

Who benefits

Institutions

  • Treasury efficiency: Borrow stablecoins against BTC positions for hedging, operations, or yield strategies.
  • Policy fit: Use BTC-collateralized structures that keep Bitcoin price exposure intact.
  • Depth & reach: Plug into Rootstock’s EVM-compatible stack and ecosystem liquidity.

Retail & power users

  • Borrow without selling BTC: Maintain upside while accessing liquidity.
  • Composability: Move between lending, swapping, and LPing across Rootstock dApps.
  • Simple entry: Use rBTC, RIF, USDRIF, and other stablecoins to shape your position.

How to get started

  1. Get rBTC on Rootstock
Bridge BTC to Rootstock to mint rBTC, or acquire rBTC via supported routes.
  2. Connect your wallet to Avalon on Rootstock
Open the Avalon app and select the Rootstock network.
  3. Choose a market
Deposit collateral (e.g. rBTC) and borrow stablecoins or other supported assets based on your risk settings.

Avalon joins LayerZero, USDT0, and Solv Protocol, which recently integrated with Rootstock. The ecosystem has seen all-time highs in TVL and user activity, reflecting rising demand for BTC-native finance.

Merged Mining in Action: Bridging Secured by Miners, Not Just Signers

Most people evaluate Bitcoin bridges with a simple shortcut: is it a federation, or is it a validator model? In that mental model, a federation bridge is a multisig controlled by a set of known parties. A validator model is a separate group that watches one chain and attests to actions on another. Both categories […]
