Token Bridge Sunset: How to Move Your Assets and Bridge to Rootstock via Stargate

Rootstock is deprecating the Token Bridge (Ethereum ↔ Rootstock). Bridging via the Token Bridge will no longer be supported after the end of March 2026. For bridging into Rootstock going forward, we recommend using Stargate.

What’s changing

  • Token Bridge bridging between Ethereum and Rootstock will no longer be supported after the end of March 2026.
  • Users and partners should begin migrating away from legacy bridged assets on the token bridge and recommending Stargate for bridging into Rootstock going forward.

Why Rootstock is making this change

Rootstock’s goal is to make moving value into (and within) Bitcoin DeFi safer, simpler, and more reliable. As the ecosystem has matured, users now have access to robust cross-chain bridging options through trusted partners like Stargate. Deprecating the Token Bridge helps streamline infrastructure, focus support efforts, and guide users toward the most reliable bridging routes available going forward.

The recommended route: bridge via Stargate

With the Token Bridge being phased out, Stargate now serves as the recommended solution for cross-chain bridging into Rootstock.

What you should do now

  1. If you have assets on the Token Bridge, plan your exit ahead of the end of March 2026.
  2. If you hold legacy bridged stablecoins (for example rUSDT), start moving to the currently supported equivalents (for example USDT0) where applicable.
  3. If you are a partner (DEX, wallet, dApp): update token lists, routing, and UI warnings so users are guided toward supported assets and bridging routes.

Timeline

  • Now through March 2026: communications and migration support.
  • End of March 2026: Token Bridge bridging between Ethereum and Rootstock no longer supported.
  • Mid to end of April 2026: expected shutdown window after users have had time to remove assets (exact date to be confirmed).

Bridging to Bitcoin DeFi shouldn’t feel like solving a puzzle. Atlas is coming to Rootstock. Stay tuned.

Introducing Atlas: The easiest way in to BTCFi

Most Bitcoin today is held, not actively used. Not because there’s no demand, but because using Bitcoin beyond holding is complex, costly, and dependent on intermediaries where tradeoffs around trust, cost, and control aren’t always clear. Borrowing against BTC or generating yield has traditionally required navigating fragmented infrastructure, comparing bridges, and making routing and security […]
